Asked 3 years ago

I feel that my Shopify store is running on the slow side of things and causing me to lose sales, how do I optimize it and increase the conversion rate?

A slow-loading page will turn customers away from your Shopify store. On average, if a page takes longer than 3 seconds to load, the customer will click off and go elsewhere. This is why it is important to make sure that your Shopify store is optimised to load quickly.

There are a few ways you can easily change the loading speed of your Shopify store, the first being your use of images. On Shopify, the maximum size your images can be is 4472 x 4472 pixels. We recommend making sure that your images are smaller than this as when you have too many large images, the site will load slower. Shopify suggests 2048 x 2048 pixels for square product photos which results in a high-resolution image that loads quickly.

Another tip for loading speed is to make sure that there is just the right amount of content on your Shopify store. What we mean by this is that you want to have blocks of text, images, and banners where appropriate, but also do not be afraid of white space. When you have a good balance of content and white space on your site, it will increase the loading speed.

Your Shopify store will be full of your branding that you chose, including a theme and font. Find a Shopify theme that is fast and responsive. You can see how fast the theme loads on your screen before choosing which one you prefer. When choosing your font for the text, try not to go with a downloadable, unique font that your customers may not have available on their devices. When you use an unknown font, the site will take longer to load. By choosing a system font that is available on most devices, you can speed up the loading time.

You may find that even after making all of these changes, you are still struggling with loading time. The likely cause of this is the network or browser of either yourself or your customers. When a user is browsing on an old version of a browser, they will find that most websites load slowly. Equally, network connection speeds will make a difference to loading speeds.

Making these changes, and checking any networks and browsers will improve loading time, therefore keeping customers on your Shopify store and improving conversion rates.
