How to use Shopify's “Automatic Discounts” feature?

It doesn’t apply until the checkout page - which makes using it with cross-sells or up-sells worthless - and I’m tired of answering calls from customers wanting to know why the promised discount isn’t showing up in their cart. Asking them to press “Checkout” without their promised discount is a big leap of faith on their part.

You can add a custom add-to-cart JS script in the Cart. Using a 3rd party app such as the "Carter app" also helps by reflecting the discount applied in the order summary. All in all, you'll have to sort things out on your front end until Shopify offers a complete solution.
