Dealing with product returns on my dropshipping Shopify store

Asked 5 years ago

How should I deal with dropshipping product returns? Where should the client send the product he wants to return (supplier/dropshipper)? Would the supplier pay for the refund and shipping?

There is a whole refund process. Contact your supplier first; if the product is defective, the supplier will agree to refund it.

In case the product is not defective, then it depends on the supplier to refund it or not. If he doesn't agree to refund the product, you must bear the cost (refund+shipping) yourself.

Returns are common, both for DTC brands and dropshippers. Dropshipper returns depend a lot on the supplier's return and exchanges policy. However, here are a few things you need to know-

Customer needs to abide by the return window - If the supplier has provided a return window of 14 days, the customer has to follow that and initiate a return request as soon as possible.

Work closely with the supplier - Do not work in solo when you are a dropshipper. Dropshipping involves you, your supplier and the customer. Therefore, always be in close contact with your supplier.

Have a returns policy that your customers can easily understand before placing a return request.

If the item turns out to be defective, only then your supplier will pay for the refund.
