Shopify holding funds until account details are updated
Asked 6 years ago
I received an email this morning saying that Shopify is holding my funds until my account details are updated. Is this just spam from Shopify? I'm not sure who sent this email and what I should do. Help will be much appreciated. I don't think my account on Shopify needs to be updated, am I missing something?

What you're describing seems to be a spam email sent to you by a hacker. If you follow the links in that email or answer the hacker, they will probably be able to log into your Shopify account and cause a lot of damage. First, you should verify that this email is indeed fake and report it both in your email app and to Shopify. Also, use a different browser to log into your Shopify account and make sure everything is in order. If you have already given this spammer any details about your account, you should change your login credentials immediately and contact Shopify to make sure your account is safe. Shopify doesn’t hold funds without a valid reason. If you suspect the Shopify holding funds email to be spam, check the mail id through Email Checker; it can easily catch the spam emails.
Additionally, a spam Shopify email contains suspicious information such as:
- An unnecessary/irrelevant link in the email – Do not open such suspicious links.
- Asks for your information on business ownership, identification card, etc. – Never submit your credentials to such requests.
