What Is Facebook Ads Account Spending Limit and How to Change It
Find out what Facebook Ads spending limit is, how it works, why Facebook put it in place, and how to change it in a few easy steps.
Updated April 27, 2023.
Historically, new Facebook Ad accounts were limited to a daily spending value of $50. This spending limit would then incrementally increase over time through the use of the account. Facebook initially introduced these spending limits to prevent fraud and exploitation of the system. Once Facebook noted that the Ad account was trustworthy, the spending limit would be increased until it was completely lifted. The ad account admin could not change the spending limits as Facebook controlled them.
Facebook Ad accounts currently have an optional spending limit known as the Account Spending Limit. This adjustable lifetime spending limit is entirely within the control of the account admin and can be changed at any time by following a few easy steps. The limit is a helpful measure for controlling costs and ensuring that you do not spend more than you intend to.

The account spending limit measures and tracks how much money has been spent on the account in total, across all campaigns, ad sets, and ads. When your expenditure reaches the set limit, all active ads will be paused, and no further payments will be deducted. You will then have the option to reset, change, or remove the account spending limit. If the limit is reset or increased, all active ads will resume immediately.
In order to set or change the account spending limit, you will need to follow the steps below:
- Go to your Payment Settings in the Ads Manager.
- Go to the "Set Your Account Spending Limit" section.
- Select "Set Account Spending Limit".
- Enter the amount that you would like to use as your limit.
- Select "Set Limit".
