How do I calculate shipping carrier fees on Shopify?

If you use a third-party carrier-calculated shipping app on your Shopify store, then you don't really need to understand how the calculations are done, because it will all be done for you. I do know that the carriers generally base the calculations off the size, weight and destination address of the package.
