Is WordPress better than Shopify for blogging?

Asked 3 years ago

I started a self-hosted blog a couple of years ago through Bluehost/WordPress. Since then, I've been slacking on the blog posts, but I have opened an Etsy shop that has been fairly successful.

I plan to open a shop on my website in addition to Etsy, but after much research, I think I prefer Shopify to my current WordPress. I know WordPress syncs with WooCommerce, but I feel that Shopify may be the better way to go.

Does anyone have experience with WordPress?

Why do you prefer Shopify?

How would switching affect my hosting through Bluehost? Would I still need them?

I also have a business email through Bluehost - would I lose that as well?

Is Shopify compatible with blogging?

To build a ready-to-go storefront, it is far easier and faster to get it done using Shopify. Though it is no debate that WordPress is great for many things, when it comes to selling and having it all ready for showcasing and getting it to clients, Shopify is more convenient. I don't have a Shopify site myself, but a friend of mine does and it is fulfilling her purpose of creating it. It was amazing to listen to her talk about the site, but it was great to see the site myself, a truly beautiful functional e-comm site fit for a real business. Shopify can help make your sales automated, while with WordPress, they can't place an order and get it unless you get actively involved, which is quite stressful.

WordPress would be easier to operate for you if you are a programmer. I tried learning Wordpress from scratch and I can tell you that it is not child's play. There’s a bit of a learning curve in Shopify as well, though, yes, but it’s nothing like learning WordPress from scratch. It’s faster, easier, AND you get to have a life.

At the end of the day, however, it still depends on what you are blogging about. If you are a general blogger who doesn't sell but just sends out information to your audience, it would be wise to go for WordPress and stay away from Shopify. This is because Shopify as the name implies, is basically a shop and a shop should have products for sale on the show glass.

Hey,

When it comes to blogging I would say wordpress does beat shopify, mainly due to the helpful SEO plugins like yoastSEO. Shopify on the other hand is much better for ecommerce businesses in my opinion.

I found this article helpful when I had to make a choice of which website host to go with https://www.ourdigitalteam.com/shopify-vs-wordpress/ hope it helpss

I'd say that WordPress is better for blogging, as it has tons of etensions for those who write and optimize articles.

However, Shopify conquers WordPress (even upleveled with WooCommerce) in ecom. Shopify is first of all helps you to create a clear and cohesive website with comprehensible and intuitive design. In WordPress you'll have to do all design yourself, and each customization will result in the whole design damage.

Anyway, it's up to you to decide whether to use WordPress or Shopify, but comprehensive web design is one of the most important SEO ranking factors.

Shopify has a powerful widget that supports these needs. Show individual products, a 'Buy Now' button, or even load the entire Shopify store in a popup on your WordPress site!

I would say that shopify is a lot better for design, but I find them both very easy to use. I think shopify might be set up more for people who are completely new to SEO, but there are a lot of good plugins you can use on wordpress! I found this article that Our Digital Team created really useful 'Shopify VS WordPress- A Start-Ups Guide', maybe have a little look and do some more research.
