How fast do you ship your customers’ orders?
Asked 5 years ago
We try to ship our orders as fast as possible. Our warehouse prints labels and ships orders within an hour after the order is placed (during working hours). Do you think it’s important to ship quickly? After all, Shopify sellers are competing with Amazon Prime...

Yes, we are competing with Amazon, but I don’t think we should compete with them on shipping time unless quick shipping is a part of your unique selling proposition and customer satisfaction. Moreover, in some cases, if you ship within the hour, you’ll probably encounter issues. Let me explain. If you sell to returning customers, who have already received orders from you and you’re sure that the shipping address is correct, then sure, go ahead and ship as quickly as possible. But if a new customer enters their shipping address, there’s always a chance they’ve made a mistake, the order will not arrive, and you’ll have to eat the cost. It’s best if you can postpone shipment until you have taken measures to make sure the addresses are correct. Emails that are sent in the first hour after the order has been placed are very effective. You have a wide window of time to send your customers an order confirmation to verify the address is correct. Amazon don’t have the same problem for two main reasons: 1. Most of Amazon’s customers are returning customers who have already received products, so their address is verified. 2. Amazon are not affected by canceled orders, lost shipments, etc. as much as Shopify merchants… So, unless you’re customer satisfaction relies on quick shipping, you better slow things down to avoid losses.
