Etsy or Shopify? Should I switch?

I currently have an Etsy shop and have been making a lot of sales recently, but I am wondering if it would be more beneficial for me to replace it with a Shopify store. Would this be a good idea?

You will most likely find that you are making sales on Etsy because people are finding your shop on Etsy. Etsy will bring traffic to your store in exchange for a commission, however, if you have a Shopify store, you will need to drive traffic to your own store. 
Etsy acts as a search engine, making it easy for people to find your store and products. Shopify is just a platform that you use to host a website with a shopping cart.

Making the switch from Etsy to Shopify can be a great idea. If your business page on Etsy is successful and you are receiving a lot of orders you may decide that you want to have more control over the business, including the look and feel of your store. 
If your business is well established on Etsy, you have customers that know your business, and followers on social media, then creating a Shopify could be great move for you. This is because you want your customers to know where they can now find you. If they expect you to be on Etsy still you may find a dip in business. This is why it is important to be well established so that you can show any customers where they can find you now.
Etsy takes fees from its sellers in order to promote products and drive traffic to certain business pages. This means that anyone selling on Etsy has the ability to reach large numbers of people, with help. If you are thinking about changing to a Shopify store, you need to think about whether you will be able to attract customers on your own. Making sure that you have a strong social media presence is essential in order to successfully make the switch from Etsy to Shopify. 
Remember, with Shopify you can work to improve your search engine rankings, and can use PPC ads to rank first on Google, whereas Etsy does not provide this luxury.
