What is Google Merchant Center?

I've seen that it has something to do with how my store appears on google, but I'm not really sure exactly what this means or how I can access and use it.

The Google Merchant Centre helps you get your shop and product information (including images) into Google to make it more available to shoppers. You can add your product data to different areas of Google so they will be seen by shoppers. There are policies and requirements that help you see if you are eligible to participate.
