Duplicating a Shopify store

Asked 4 years ago

I am considering opening another Shopify store with the same product base but different positioning (price, shipping, etc). How can I duplicate my Shopify store ?

Why would you want to duplicate your store?

I would like to test different product positioning, including different pricing and shipping.

Duplicating your store has big disadvantages - it is bad for SEO, you will have to spend effort on keeping both stores updated and divide your marketing budget. Instead, I would recommend that you do A/B testing on your current store. A/B testing basically means giving one version to one group and the other version to another group and measuring the difference in performance. It is a great way to optimize your offerings and improve your conversions.

Shopify lets you duplicate your store. When you duplicate a store, you can transfer some types of store information by using CSV files, but other types of information must be entered manually in your Shopify admin. Some of your store information can't be transferred, this includes your visitor traffic data, orders, discount codes, issued gift cards and custom reports. Be aware that when you buy a theme from the Shopify Theme Store, that theme is licensed only to the store that you originally buy it for. If you want to transfer a theme license to another store, then you need to contact Shopify Support.
