How does price automation work, and what is needed to implement it? Do I need to download an app?

Price automation is different from manually setting prices. Instead of a pricing manager, a software system decides prices based on predetermined criteria limits or algorithms. Afterward, there is very little or no need for humans to interact with the system. There are plenty of apps on the Shopify app store designed to do this specifically for you, such as OP Pricing Optimization.

Through price automation, prices are determined automatically using a software system based on a pre-determined set of rules or constraints instead of manually by a pricing manager. The "automation" part is the easier step: you need to connect various systems so they can exchange data. While this step can be technically challenging, there's often a solution (which usually requires coordination with your company's IT department).
