Creating an order on behalf of a customer on Shopify
Asked 5 years ago
I am looking for a way to create an order for a customer on my Shopify store and then send it privately so the customer can complete the purchase. It will save me the hassle of taking an order by phone. What would be the best way to do it? What is a draft order and would it fit here?

Hi, Mark here from KeepShoppers
Shopify has draft orders exactly for that. You can create orders for your customers and send them invoices from the Shopify admin/app. These orders are named draft orders and are similar to the orders that your customers create for themselves. A draft order is converted to an order when you accept payment for it.
How to create a draft order -
- From your Shopify admin, go to Orders
- Click Create order
- Add products to the order
Customize the order -
- Add a customer
- Apply discounts
- Turn taxes on/off
- Add tags/notes
Choose one of the following -
- Email an invoice to the customer By default, the invoice contains a link to a checkout that your customer can use to pay for the order
- Accept payment from the customer
- Save the order as a draft so that you can update it later from the Drafts page
Draft orders can contain the following information -
- One or more products
- Discounts on individual items or the entire order
- Shipping rates
- Applicable taxes
- A customer
