Adding images to product variants on Shopify

Do I have to add a different image to each of the product variants?

It is recommended to add variant images since it will generally improve your sales performance. It is not required and not really helpful if you don't have distinctive different images for the different variants. If you do not add an image to a certain variant, the default product image will be displayed.
