Paying the Shopify store monthly fee during a pause period

No, you can't freeze your payment. Unfortunately the only way to stop paying is closing the Shopify store... I guess that Shopify is doing that in order for people to keep their stores active because if you shut down your store you lose all of the work you put into it - data, design, products, etc.
